Northern Isles
About the Northern Isles
The North Pole of Aurora.
The Nothern Isles lie on the North Pole of Aurora and despite this, the continent still enjoys a diverse environment due to the sub-atmosphere that was created when the land was ejected from the oceans by the Ancient’s War long ago. The N.I. remains suspended in mid-air, and has for centuries. This has made the continent virtually impenetrable from assault. Thus the Northern Isles has experienced relative peace from the outside world, that however has not prevented them from being plagued by infighting amongst the self-governing tribes that call this continent home.
There is little to no information in recorded history about the event that caused the Northern Isles to lift out of the ground - leaving room for rumors and speculations of all kind. Research has yielded rather disappointing results as well for the nation. So far, six research expeditions have come up empty handed. What they do know about the area is this: it is an extremely dense source of Aether, the Aether appears to be Gravére in nature and anything that comes within 15 meters of the epicenter is rendered weightless. On the fifth expedition, there were some concerns among the researchers that there may be something living within the darkness, but no concrete evidence was found.
Underneath the Northern Isles is a giant trench in the ocean believed to be from the event that lifted the continent into the sky.
Some research towards the phenomenon keeping the isles floating has yielded some promising answers. Given the Krero Consi for "lightning". Pronounced kreh-roh. Aether Zone formed simultaneously during the ejection of the isles, it seems safe to assume the two were related. The Krero Consi for "lightning". Pronounced kreh-roh. Aether has created an intense electromagnetic field that that seems to affect the islands.
This field has caused the land and life forms to evolve. Electromagnetic minerals run through the composition of each island as well as in some flora and fauna. But further research has shown that the electromagnetic field is negatively charged while the islands are positively charged - the magnetic field of Aurora is also negatively charged, thus the continued suspension of the islands.
Largest Nation
The Northern Isles does not have a central government, or a nation. Instead there are many tribes each with their own governing body and laws. Many of these tribes do not get along.
Rumors have it that the outside peace this continent has enjoyed for centuries may soon come to an end. This has caused questions of how the N.I. might handle protecting their home from invaders given their splintered relations. Some tribes hope to be able to unify for the cause, but the others don’t seem willing.
Locations in the Northern Isles.
Crior’s Cyke
The valley between Mt. Mimutsu and Black Orga. Here a grave battle was fought during the Taga war of 55,803, the freedom of the Northern Isles was established, and the first Emperor, Zealor, of Pyron fell.
Before the battle this was a verdant area, but the aftermath has left this valley scarred and barren.
Jüky Verarokéd
A sentient forest full of carnivorous plants and sprites, while not completely closed off to outside interested parties, it is known to be unwelcoming to visitors. The inhabitants of the forest exhibit a hive mind, this extends to the plants as well as sprites.
The forest is structured in rings like a tree’s core:
Outer ring (200km) - carnivorous
2ndry Outer ring (150km) - farming
Inner ring (100km) - fae residential
Core (50km) - Royal Tree
Sykéd Web
A wide variety of sentient fungi live here, in fact, only fungus live here - as both flora and fauna; and most are bioluminescent. During the day, the being phtosynthesize and feed, this create a purple mist that seemingly roams the forest - it acts as a paralytic nerve toxin. The forest is safe to pass through at night as the activity dies down, and the toxin dissipates.
The Fungal Wood tree canopy is covered with highly adhesive & corrosive Fungal Web that traps and corrodes anything unlucky enough to get caught in it. This web helps feed the fungal beings that live here.
Spring of the Aleed Reuh (Nipü se ehry Áléed Reü)
This spring boasts unparalleled rejuvenation properties. The Aether hotspot gathers Hylé Consi for "fire". Pronounced high-lee. , Aqépo Consi for "water". Pronounced "aw-kwee-poh" , and Masu Consi for "life". Pronounced maw-soo , Aethers to rejuvenate, repair, and replenish the body, mind, and soul. Said to be protected by a spirit known as the "White Lady", a ghostly apparition that seems to manipulate the energies of Masu and death. She appears around midnight and whenever the harmony of the spring is threatened.
Red Plateau
Named for the red clay and iron rich soil that makes up most of the island. Craggy, barren and vast, those that call the Red Plateau home endure one of the harshest environments on aurora. Several mountain ranges give way to long stretches of desert. The water in this region exists mostly within the aquifer - the aqueduct beneath the Red Plateau is as grand as the surface of the island. There are several chambers and chasms within the island that host a variety of cave dwelling and subterranean creatures.
Red Aqueduct
A region of the Northern Isles located under the Red Plateau. The Red Aqueduct gets its name from the soil composition and the rust colored waters than run there. Home to many aquatic cave dwelling creatures, the Red Aqueduct holds many secrets and is vital to the livelihood of the surface creatures.
